Reflections on Dyslexia

Click here for a larger cover of the DVD There is an abundance of reputable information available about Dyslexia and strategies to best remediate, accommodate and position students for success. Yet, poor understandings, insufficient funding arrangements and folklore continue to flourish in pockets of our schools, the media and community.

Ever wondered how students with learning difficulties have coped since their school years?

Did they find success, or were their opportunities affected by the same problems they encountered in the classroom?

Have you occasionally reflected on the effectiveness of your involvement?

What more might have you offered?

Is it possible to identify the elements that could ensure success for students with learning difficulty?

Reflections on Dyslexia is a 20 minute film designed for school administrators, teachers, parents & older students. It invites you into the lives of four adults who live with Dyslexia. Rick, Jane, Ross and Gemma tell how their learning difficulty has steered the choices they have made. They discuss the emotional issues behind Dyslexia, and how it has influenced their behaviour, opportunity and success. They share what has helped and what has hurt along the way so that you might begin to truly understand. Their hope is that their stories will urge you to review your opinion about learning difficulties, to exchange viewpoints with colleagues and parents, to gather more information and devise greater support options for students. The package also includes an information booklet that provides an overview of Dyslexia, workshop suggestions for teachers, useful print and web references and biographies about the participants in the film.

Reflections on Dyslexia is distributed to individuals, schools, colleges and tertiary institutions nationally and internationally.

Here's what independent reviewers had to say about Reflections on Dyslexia:

Start quote Reflections on Dyslexia weave the stories of four individuals with Dyslexia into an emotional and powerful documentary. Sraet quote
Kevin Rooney, past president of SPELD, South Australia.

Start quote A teacher's influence on the life of a student goes well beyond the time they spend together in a classroom. These vignettes remind us that the choices we make can have a very powerful impact. This is a wonderful resource! Sraet quote
Anne Bayetto, Project Officer, Learning Difficulties Support Team, DECS.

Start quote This film is a breakthrough! It breaks through the barriers of prejudice and ignorance and provides viewers an opportunity to walk in the shoes‚ of people with Dyslexia. The stories are compelling and empowering. This film should be compulsory viewing for every training teacher, every teacher and every student! Sraet quote
Frank Davies, Senior Lecturer in Education, Tabor College Teacher Education, South Australia.

Start quote Reflections on Dyslexia is a powerful professional development resource. As I work with Australian children and adults with Dyslexia I see their growing resignation and sadness, despite sound intervention efforts. I lend "REFLECTIONS ON DYSLEXIA" to the students and families I work with, and they love it. It is able to break down misunderstanding, build inquiry and enthusiasm. Sraet quote
Susan Galletly, Acclaimed teacher and researcher in Dyslexia from Queensland.
